Frequently Asked Questions

The California State Preschool Program (CSPP) at STEAM Preschool provides an age- and developmentally appropriate learning environment designed to support the whole child and a successful transition to kindergarten. Through research-based curriculum, purposeful play, and hands-on learning experiences, children develop foundational skills in language and literacy, early mathematics, social-emotional development, health and safety, and other areas of development.

CSPP also recognizes families as important partners in their child's learning and development. Families have opportunities to participate in parent education, program activities, and the Parent Advisory Committee, while also receiving information and connections to available health, nutrition, social services, and community resources.

Priority is first given to children receiving Child Protective Services (CPS), children identified as being at risk of abuse or neglect, and children experiencing homelessness. After these priority groups are served, eligible 4-year-old children are enrolled first, followed by eligible 3- and 2-year old children, in accordance with CSPP enrollment priorities.

Additional factors considered in determining enrollment priority include:

• Family income
• Previous enrollment in CSPP
• Children with disabilities who have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP)

Families may be required to pay a family fee based on family income, family size, and approved hours of care. When applicable, family fees are determined using the fee schedule established by the California Department of Education.

STEAM Preschool operates year-round, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM. Your family's schedule is assigned at enrollment based on your needs. Any subsequent schedule changes require supporting documentation and approval from the enrollment analyst.

Our program has two classrooms, each serving up to 24 children. In accordance with Title 5 requirements, we maintain an adult-to-child ratio of 1:8, or one adult for every eight children.

To protect the safety and privacy of our students, in-person tours are reserved for families completing the enrollment process. Once your application is nearly complete and a start date is assigned, we will schedule a tour before your child's first day. In the meantime, you are welcome to watch our virtual tour video.

Waitlist applications are accepted year-round. To join our waitlist, please create an account on the Hubbe parent portal to begin the application process.
